Simplicity
Quakers are sometimes confused with Amish or Shaker groups because of their thoughts on simplicity. Historically, Quakers wore simple grey clothes and avoided "fripperies"! Today Quakers believe that living a simpler, uncluttered life provides more time and space for thought, worship and action. Quakers believe that excessive attachment to materialistic objects may have the capacity to cloud other pleasures in life. Quakers worship in simple meeting houses, seated around a central table decorated with a few flowers. The format of the worship itself is also very simple. Quakers try to speak plainly and simply, and to always tell the truth.
